'Wall Street 2' Has a Mentor

Variety reports that "Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps" has landed Oscar nominated Frank Langella to play an old-time broker in the Oliver Stone sequel. The sequel to Stone's 1987 hit will follow a new young broker much like the original film. To read the full details scroll down...

Frank Langella will play Lewis Zabel. Zabel is a mentor to the upcoming Wall Street broker played by Shia LaBeouf. Variety reveals that Langella's role will play a vital part to the film by saying, "The mentor's fate plays a major part in the film's plot." Langella is joined by Michael Douglas returning as Gordon Gekko and Josh Brolin who is also circling a role. The film was scripted by Allan Loeb and is being produced by Oliver Stone, Edward R. Pressman and Eric Kopeloff. Stone is returning to direct the sequel aiming for a April 23, 2010 release.

I can't say I am too excited for a sequel to Wall Street. I loved the original film, but a sequel only screams inability to back fresh ideas in Hollywood. It is nice that Stone is returning to direct, however Stone hasn't made substanial directorial effort since Natural Born Killers. God, I was in High School when 'Killers' released. That is too long of a drought from what use to be an amazing director. It is also nice that "Money Never Sleeps" does return Gekko's character, but still the premise feels like nothing more than a reboot of the original story. Despite my lack of interest for a Wall Street sequel, more news to come as it develops...

What say you? Does a sequel to Wall Street sound interesting? Strikeback...
