'Stooges' Continues to Stumble

Some interesting news on the Farrelly brothers "The Three Stooges" broke over the weekend that really starts to make us wonder if the film will ever actually happen. The Boston Globe reports that 'Stooges' has found a replacement for Sean Penn as Larry, but now are in search for a new Curly. To read more about "The Three Stooges" new speed bump read on...

First up let's deal with the addition to the cast. The Globe confirms a rumor that began back in June, that actor Paul Giamatti will replace Sean Penn in the role of Larry. Back in June while attending the Nantucket Film Festival Giamatti was asked about playing the role and his comments did not give any indication that he would warm-up to the role. He said, "But Larry? I don’t get Larry. He’s strange. He’s sort of the blank guy in the middle." Now though, with the confirmation from the Globe, it seems Paul Giamatti will play the character he called, "the blank guy in the middle." I think Giamatti is the best alternative to Penn, but I still have serious reservations that the film should even be made.

The Globe article points out that Jim Carrey has dropped out of the role Curly. There have been online stories of Carrey gaining weight for the prankster role, but the current article debunks those claims. Carrey did seem perfect for Curly and quite honestly I can't picture to many people playing the role. I am sure there is someone out there that might work, I would much rather just see a 'Stooges' project put to rest. The Farrelly brothers however, will continue to look for a new Curly in hopes to begin shooting early next year for late 2010 release. "The Three Stooges" still has Benecio Del Toro casted as Moe, who apparently is a huge Stooges fan. More news on "The Three Stooges" as it develops...

What say you? Is Paul Giamatti a perfect fit for Larry? Who would you cast as Curly? Strikeback...
