McQuarrie Scripting Wolverine

X-Men Origins: Wolverine despite a lot of negative reviews and a internet leak made a nice chunk of change over the summer and was promptly given the green light by FOX for a sequel. Hugh Jackman told fans at the Kids Choice Awards that development had indeed begun and that we could expect to see the Japan saga played out. Today new Wolverine news has sliced its way on to the net over at THR and I have the full scoop for you right here. To read the full story scroll down...

One thing X-Men fans have whined about since Bryan Singer leaving the franchise is it needed Singer back. THR reports that while Singer himself ins't returning to Wolverine one of his old buddies is. Christopher McQuarrie has been hired to pen the upcoming Wolverine sequel. McQuarrie wrote both of Bryan Singer's The Usual Suspects and Valkyrie. THR reports that the sequel will follow Chris Claremont/Frank Miller 1980's miniseries, which is set in Japan and features Wolverine dealing with ninjas as he struggles whether to follow his animal killer instincts or the life under a samurai's code of honor and respect. McQuarrie should be a nice fit to give the script that extra something the X-Men Origins lacked.

I for one enjoyed X-Men Origins: Wolverine. It wasn't great, but it was mindless fun and a much more carnal take on the famous clawed mutant, compared to Singer's more thoughtful work. The one thing that was extremely weak was the script and hiring McQuarrie is a vote of confidence in the right direction. McQuarrie did pen a draft to Singer's X-Men, so he is familar with the Wolverine character and should be able to give fans more of what they wanted in the 'Origins' film. More news on a Wolverine sequel as it develops...

What say you? Does hiring McQuarrie get you interested in a Wolverine sequel? Strikeback...
