This week some "big" news broke in the SciFi world. Drew McWeeny over at HitFix first broke the story that Bryan Singer and Universal will make a big screen version of "Battlestar Galatica". Singer will be both directing and producing the film. The story was later confirmed by Variety saying the film will be "a complete reimagination." After that news becomes a bit hazy surrounding the iconic series. Read more on "Battlestar Galatica" below...
We know that Bryan Singer will direct and produce along with Glen Larson a motion picture of "Battlestar Galatica". We also know from Variety that it will be a "a complete reimagination" but it is not clear if Ronald Moore, executive producer of the recent series will be aboard in some fashion. Chances are probably not, which could go either way with fans of the last Battlestar Galatica series on SciFi channel. This isn't the first time Singer was apart of putting his spin on Battlestar Galatica. His vision however never came to pass after the events of September 11th, 2001. Singer and Tom De Santo's script included a sneak invasion from Cylon's that the SciFi channel thought was too close to the (then) recent attacks. The plug was pulled on production and that was the end of Singer and Battlestar Galatica until now.
I love Bryan Singer's vision and think the world of him, but this news does nothing for me. I was a huge fan of the original series as a kid, not so much the most recent version. I tried to get into it, but to no avail. So, news that Singer is "reimagining" Battlestar Galatica honestly only makes me wish he was doing something else, like returning to X-Men for "First Class" or the Wolverine sequel that his buddy McQuarrie just signed on to pen. It will at least be interesting to see how this develops. Fans of the most recent series are sure to be polarized by this news and it will be fun to watch how Universal's "Battlestar Galatica" is received. More news as it develops...
What say you? Are you excited for a Bryan Singer Battlestar Galatica? Should Ronald Moore be involved in some manner? Strikeback...
