It's time for Part II of the Top 25 Most Anticipated Films Left in 2009! Today I give you numbers 20-16 all which I couldn't be more excited about. One thing that may become apparent as this list develops it that I have abandoned the month of August. There are plenty of great movies to see in August, but this list is more for films post Summer through the end of the year. A time of year that is traditionally filled with a great number of quality films. Without further delay here's Part II of the Top 25 Most Anticipated Films Left in 2009...
Martin Scorsese is brilliant, I love his films. I will say that he has been leaning on Leonardo DiCaprio or the other way around (depending on how you look at it) a lot as of late, but "Shutter Island" still has me intrigued. One major reason is that Scorsese has stepped out of his gangster shell and is bringing us a thriller. From what the trailer has shown, his thriller looks damn good too. DiCaprio could make or break the film, but irregardless I amped enough for it to make the list. A final note, anything that has Mark Ruffalo starring will immediately have my full attention. When I first heard Roland Emmerich was making another disaster movie after a heavy eye-roll, I assumed it would be yet another over-inflated spectacle. Then I saw the trailer, Wow! My initial reaction may still be very much warranted, but the special effects and sheer destruction that this movie has within it is enough to land itself in the Top 25 Most Anticipated Films Left in 2009. I am hoping that "2012" ends up being a lot more like Independence Day than anything resembling Emmerich's more recent lesser efforts. Having Jon Cusack in the cast definitely helps his cause, well at least in my book. Director: Roland Emmerich

Pedro Almodóvar is an amazing talent hands down and there should be no surprise that one of his films is on my list. Almodóvar with "Broken Embraces" has returned to film noir in a tale that follows a blind writer as he tells a story that is set both in the present and in the 1990's. Penélope Cruz stars as a call girl who becomes a mistress to a jealous millionaire only to later begin an affair with Mateo Blanco also known as Harry Caine (the blind writer). The film is a four-way tale of fate, jealousy, abuse of power, betrayal and guilt that weaves through Harry's past and present. The first images I saw of this film instantly pulled me in and after watching the international trailer I have been waiting patiently for "Broken Embraces" to release. Director: Pedro Almodóvar

Say that Jon Favreau and Vince Vaughn are back together in a comedy and you have me sold. "Couples Retreat" doesn't stop with just another Vaughn and Favreau team-up but the duo wrote the comedy together and brought on a bunch a quality actors to star in the couples comedy. Namely Jason Bateman, who I have loved since his early television days as Derek on Silver Spoons. John Michael Higgins is always worth a few laughs as is Ken Jeong, who plays one of the couples retreat therapists. I'm sure the story won't be groundbreaking or stray too far from typical comedy formula, but a Jon Favreau and Vince Vaughn scripted comedy already has me laughing and definitely earns it's spot on Schofizzy's Top 25 Most Anticipated Films Left in 2009. First thing I heard about "9" was it was another animated feature produced by Tim Burton, which didn't really get my ears perked at all. Frankly, Tim Burton's mind has become an old hat now. What was once magical and new unfortunately, has become dull and more of the same. Despite my cynicism I began to look further at "9" and only became more and more infatuated with the story and characters the more I learned and saw. "9" is definitely Shane Acker's child. Do not mistake this as another Tim Burton project. While you can see why Burton's put his name to it, "9" is something entirely different from the traditional stuff Burton has done. "9" looks incredible, it has amazing animation, outstanding voice actors and should prove to be absolutely riveting for both adults and children. Director: Shane Acker

Synopsis: When 9 first comes to life, he finds himself in a post-apocalyptic world where all humans are gone, and it is only by chance that he discovers a small community of others like him taking refuge from fearsome machines that roam the earth intent on their extinction. Despite being the neophyte of the group, 9 convinces the others that hiding will do them no good. They must take the offensive if they are to survive, and they must discover why the machines want to destroy them in the first place. As they'll soon come to learn, the very future of civilization may depend on them.
