Back in July I reported about Jodie Foster's next project titled "The Beaver" in which she is directing and starring alongside Mel Gibson. The film is scheduled to begin lensing in September in New York, however until now no studio was behind the project for distributing rights. Variety reports that Summit Entertainment is in final negotiations for world distributing rights for "The Beaver". To read all the details scroll down...
The dark comedy is centered around a depressed man (Gibson), who finds solace in wearing a beaver hand-puppet. Jodie Foster will be playing his wife. The film is scripted by Kyle Killen and would the second time Gibson and Foster would share the screen. The script was on the notorious Hollywood Black List and at one time had Jim Carrey and Steve Carrell circling the project only to be later picked up by Foster. Foster then took the project to Mel Gibson as a way to get the two of them back together on screen as they had always wished since doing the 1995 film Maverick. Steve Golin and Keith Redmon will serve as producers for the film.
I certainly hope Summit does in fact work out a deal on distributing rights. Dark comedies always sit well with me and it could be a perfect film for Gibson. Foster and Gibson had amazing chemistry in Maverick and seeing them on screen together again does get me instantly interested as well. More news of "The Beaver" as it develops...
What say you? Does are you willing to give The Beaver a try? Strikeback...
