Over the weekend news broke regarding two different castings for "The Green Hornet". The Seth Rogen vehicle had hit a speed bump when Stephen Chow stepped down as director and then later Kato, but the Michel Gondry film has finally found it's new Kato. Korean actor Jay Chou will replace Chow in the role made famous by Bruce Lee. The second actor who has also joined the cast of "The Green Hornet" is Edward James Olmos. For more details on both castings, read the full story below...
Jay Chou has a few films under his belt in Korea. His biggest film here in the U.S. was The Curse of the Golden Flower. The actor also directed his own film Secret which he also starred. Having only seen Chou in The Curse of the Golden Flower, I can't get too excited about the casting. That said, Michel Gondry is directing an action flick and that alone has me pumped for "The Green Hornet". Michel Gondry must have definitely saw something he liked in Chou, he told Variety, "Jay is incredibly unique and charming and fights like a wild dog!"
Edward James Olmos is a pretty bad ass actor dating all the way back to his role in Blade Runner and having him join the cast of "The Green Hornet" is a pleasant surprise. Olmos told Hollywood Snitch, "I'm on my way to do 'The Green Hornet. It'll be a lot of fun with Seth [Rogen], Nicolas Cage and Cameron Diaz." Edward James Olmos did not allude to whom exactly he would be playing, but we can assume it will be some form of law enforcement.
Columbia Pictures hope's to begin shooting this fall with a July 9th 2010 release date set. Variety also reports that Nicolas Cage is in final negotiations to play the villain while Cameron Diaz will play a reporter/ love interest to Rogen's lead character Britt Reid. More news on "The Green Hornet" as it develops...
What say you? Is Gondry's The Green Hornet shaping up like you hoped? Strikeback...
