Hardwicke Boards Gothic 'Hood'

Earlier this month I reported that Appian Way had hired The Orphan screenwriter David Leslie Johnson to pen a script of "The Girl With the Red Riding Hood". Yesterday news on the project developed further with Twilight and Thirteen director Catherine Hardwicke becoming attached as director for the gothic re-imagining of the classic tale. Read all the details below...

There is no reason to get too excited just yet. Hardwicke has already a growing list of projects she's attached to including Sony's "Maximum Ride", a modern re-telling of Shakespeare's "Hamlet" with her Lords of Dogtown star Emile Hirsch for Overture and a film titled "If I Stay" over at Summit. Similarly Appian Way has a ton of projects that who knows if and when they will get past the initial stages of production.

Catherine Hardwicke is a solid choice for a gothic re-imaging of 'Red Riding Hood', although as I had said in my previous report on this project, I will only be satisfied if the film is a 'Red Riding Hood' I can not take my kids too. Just giving it a gothic spin like Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow would be a waste. We need something brutal, vicious and most of all scary. More news on "The Girl With the Red Riding Hood" as it develops....
