The Grimm fairytales have had a number of different adaptations over the years whether in book, film or television. The fairytales have been told aimed for kids and less often targeted for adults. This week news comes that Appian Way has hired David Leslie Johnson to pen a new vision on Little Red Riding Hood. The Leonardo DiCaprio banner aims to revitalize the classic Grimm fairytale with a gothic twist. Read more about "Little Red Riding Hood" below...
David Leslie Johnson who most recently penned the screenplay for this year's "The Orphan" doesn't have much to go on to get me too excited for this project. The Orphan was terrible and a lot of what I hated about the film was due to Johnson's character development in the script. He created a mother and a father who were so blind and absolutely incredibly naive, I'd hate to think what he could do to Little Red Riding Hood. Outside of the fact I have little faith in David Leslie Johnson's talents, I have seen the "gothic" spin on other stories go very well for some and not so good for others. So I remain conflicted with barely any real news to report other than DiCaprio's company has hired Johnson for a gothic revisioning. The report in Variety does not provide any news surrounding how the story will be otherwise approached, they do point out that DiCaprio will definately not be starring in the update.
In my highest hopes we will see something along the lines of an R rated thriller. I'd love for a werewolf rather than just a simple wolf, one that is devistatingly brutal and doesn't leave the viewer with a happy ending. Simply put, I want a Little Red Riding Hood movie I don't want to take my kids too! More news on Appian Way's "Little Red Riding Hood" as it develops...
What say you? Does a gothic Little Red Riding Hood sound like something you'll wantto see? Strikeback...
