Back in February at the Academy Awards Hugh Jackman proclaimed the musical is back! Today news proves that he is doing everything he can to be apart of that ressurection. Variety reports that Jackman has signed on to play P.T. Barnum in "The Greatest Showman on Earth" for Twenieth Century Fox. The film will be a contemporary musical that follows Barnum as he creates the three-ring circus he is famous for while also focusing on his affections for the Swedish Nightingale. Twentieth Century Fox has hired Sex in the City scribe Jenny Bicks to pen the script and has Laurence Mark, John Palermo and Jackman set to produce. The studio is currently persuing british vocalist Mika to write lyrics and music to the contemporary musical.Variety reports that Jackman fancies Anne Hathaway for both a role here in "The Greatest Showman on Earth" and the other musical Jackman has waiting in the wings, a remake of "Carnival" over at Fox 2000. In 'Greatest' Hathaway would play the object of Barnum's infatuation, singer Lenny Lind. It is not a shock that Jackman wants Hathaway for both roles considering they partnered at this year's Oscars, she is utterly adorable and seems to appeal to both men and women unlike other sexy actresses working.
