G.I. Joe fans can get excited about more Joe coming your way real soon! LA Times reports that Paramount chairman Rob Moore has confirmed the studio will quickly move forward developing a sequel to the first film. G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra made $100 million worldwide in it's opening weekend warranting what Paramount believes just cause to move forward with a sequel. I would have not reported this story without any other real potential news to report, but while digging this morning I found an interview with G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra scribe Stuart Beattie giving some interesting news on where he liked to take a sequel if the green light was given. To read what Beattie had to say read below...
Stuart Beattie tells IF magazine there a ton of possibilities with where a seuqel could go. He said, "You always have fantasies of what you would like to do if you got the chance to do it again. There are so many great characters and vehicles and storylines. There are endless ways to go." Beattie then got down to some specific character's he like to bring into the next film. Beattie explained, "There are a bunch of characters I’d like to bring in like Shipwreck, Wild Bill, Major Blood and the Dreadnoks." I for one, would absolutely love to see the Dreadnoks brought in, especially with where the first movie leaves off. Beattie also expresses interest in bringing in a famous Cobra base. He told IF magaizine, "I would love to get Cobra Island in there." Beattie finishes his questioning concerning a G.I. Joe sequel by re-expressing that there is a ton of potential, he would love to write a sequel and that Paramount has the last call. "There’s a bunch of stuff I would like to do if we were lucky enough to get a chance to do it again. It’s up to the people at Paramount and how well it does."
Beattie's interview was prior to Rob Moore's comments and now knowing that Paramount is ready to move forward I love all of Beattie's ideas. The Dreadnoks are a must for a sequel. Cobra Island feels more primed for a third film, if the series survives a second effort. The other characters Beattie references though are all nice choices. The LA Times article also reveals that the entire cast is locked in for a sequel, although director Stephen Sommers is not. More news to G.I. Joe sequel as it develops...
What say you? Who would you want in a G.I. Joe sequel? Strikeback...
