This week news came via Variety and a few other sources that Sony is in final talks to bring Terry Gilliam's "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" stateside. Sony had previously bought rights to release 'Parnassus' in other world markets, but a deal had never been met for a U.S. release. All signs point to a 2009 release for the film that premiered back at Cannes in this year. Slash Film points to Christmas Day for a release while others would not specifically site a date but more so the month of December.
Terry Gilliam is one of the greatest working directors and his latest film looks miraculous. I watched the panel at Comic Con this year and became even further enchanted by the look and feel of his latest film. Gilliam's films are amazing and "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" looks to be just as good as the rest. I find it down right ridiculous that Sony has taken this long to release what is Heath Ledger's final performance. I have been shocked that studios weren't jumping at the prospect of owning the rights to Gilliam's latest. The cast is amazing, the visuals are too and the story looks to be another one of Gilliam's great inventions. Let's hope Sony can get their heads out of the sand long enough to get a 2009 release date for "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus". More news as it develops...
What say you? Is The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus something you have been looking forward to seeing? Strikeback...
