Mamet & Disney Spin 'Frank'

One of the books just about everyone has read is "A Diary of Anne Frank". Whether forced in high school or just on your own, many have come to love the heart-wrenching story of 15-year-old Anne Frank. Variety reports that Walt Disney Studios has purchased the film rights and with acclaimed writer/director David Mamet will once again bring her story to life. To read the full story scroll down...

The last time a Anne Frank film released was fifty years ago back in 1959. There was also television miniseries on ABC in 2001, but the story is one of a few that have not been adapted, re-adapted and then later re-imaged leaving the story over told. This "new rendition" of the famous holocaust account, will take from both the stage play by Albert Hackett and Frances Goodrich and the original diary. Mamet will also add his own perspective to the motion picture.

Producer Adam Braunsberg worked on getting rights to Hackett's and Goorich's play as well as the Frank Estate for the film which David Mamet is currently scripting. Mamet, most known for his legendary screenplays including Glengarry Glen Ross more recently, directed Redbelt with Chiwetel Ejiofor in 2008 and also did a 4-episode stint directing the CBS television drama The Unit.

The holocaust has been dealt with fairly well throughout the years of cinema, but having the talented David Mamet penning a rendition of the story does perk my interests. Although with a story like 'Anne Frank' now how great the writing and directing are the film will hinge on the performances within the film. With that said, how well Disney and Mamet fill out this cast will be a huge topic of interest. More news on Disney and Mamet's "The Dairy of Anne Frank" as it develops...

What say you? Does a new version to The Diary of Anne Frank entice you? Strikeback...
