Rockwell & Spacey Spend Time on the Moon

IO9 is reporting that Sam Rockwell will have some company along his three year journey to the "Moon." Kevin Spacey has been casted to lend his voice to a robot that accompanies Rockwell's character Sam Bell in the new scifi film called, "Moon." Moon is directed by Duncan Jones (David Bowie's son!), and centers around a space miner who has a three year contract with a drilling company called LUNAR, the film follows Bell (Rockwell) throughout his 3-year term up to the end of his contract where things don't quite go as he had expected them to. Rockwell while doing a press tour for "Choke" had this to say about the casting of Kevin Spacey, "We've got Kevin Spacey who's going to play the voice of the robot. Which is great. But [otherwise] it's just me, and there are a couple of supporting roles of people who do transmissions onto the space station."

There is no word exactly what kind of robotic being Spacy will voice. Whether or not he could be similair to HAL in "2001" or if it would be physically walking and talking android. The film is in post-production at this point so it is highly doubtful that Spacey is voicing a walking cgi android or whatever. I bet it is definately a HAL-esque robot that runs the ship he is on and is controlled by the LUNAR corporation.

There's no doubt Rockwell can carry a film, and will definately have to with this scifi thriller. I personally adore everything Rockwell has touched and am really looking forward to this feature. Rockwell had this to add about all of his screen-time, "That's a pretty weird movie. That's a lot of Sam. It's a lot of Sam for me to watch. There's no Anjelica Huston, Kelly Macdonald and Brad Henke [his cast members from Choke] in that movie, but we do have Kevin, thank god." Rockwell who is know for his preperation and dedication to his roles said it becomes hard especially under the short time constraints, "It was hard," Rockwell explained. I would say Choke, Joshua and Moon are probably the hardest things I've done. And Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind, but we had a longer schedule. So what you're talking about with a movie like Choke or any of those others. You're doing a part like Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind, but you're doing it in a month. So you can imagine, it's taxing on everybody."

Rockwell while doing his press junket gave away some spoilers to the third act of "Moon," here's the spoiler free version of the characters dilemmas, "he's got some pretty Shakespearean problems." (Click here to see the full story and all the spoilers)

Moon sounds like an amazing film. Sam Rockwell is a personal fav and to have a psychological scifi film that has some dark themes, Moon feels right up my alley. The film being directed and an original idea by Duncan Jones adds another perk, him being Bowie's son (Bowie's son has to be brillaint, right?). Moon is slated to release in 2009, but you can see Rockwell in Choke, releasing September 26th in limited release.

What are your thoughts on Moon? Fan of Sam Rockwell? Kevin Spacey seems perfect for the voice of an android!
