Green-Light for Green Lantern!!

A couple weks ago I wrote an article called 10 DC Films That Should Be Made (Green Lantern was #2 on my list). Looks like I wasn't the only one who felt that Green Lantern would make for a great tentpole for Warner Brothers! Green Lantern has been officially put into production. In Prudction Weekly's current issue, a brief synopsis is given and some production notes.

"Each sector of space is protected by a Green Lantern, possessing a power ring that uses a powerful green energy to do anything within the limits of the user's imagination and will power. When the Green Lantern assigned to this sector of space finds himself dying on planet Earth, he tells the ring to find a suitable successor. The chosen replacement, hot-shot test pilot Hal Jordan, finds himself with a new job he never expected."

Hold the phone, Hal Jordan! Hal Jordan instead of John Stewart is kind of shocking. I am all for Hal Jordan over John Stewart, but Warner Bros. as of late have been going with the John Stewart version of the superhero. For those of you that really do not follow comics, or just not Green Lantern, Hal Jordan is from the Silver Age of comics and John Stewart is the most recent version of the charcter who has dawned the green ring. Does this mean that Jordan will also be featured in the rumored Justice League of America film? Common had been casted as John Stewart in the up and down project being directed by George Miller. However back in January when the film was put on indefinite hold all of the casted actors contracts lapsed. So this might point another finger that WB is going to actually re-cast JLA movie and go with Hal Jordan over John Stewart. Warner Brothers could do both incarnations also, a stand-alone Hal Jordan film, and in the team film JLA, John Stewart. That, however would not stay true to DC origin of the Justice League. Hal Jordan was a founding member of the original Justice League!

Currently, there is no director attached to Green Lantern. Originally Greg Berlanti was attached to direct Grren Lantern when first rumblings of the feature popped up back in October of 2007. Warner Bros. could definately be going a whole other direction being a few years down the line. One can assume, the DC & WB brass meeting accomplished quite a few things, and this could be one of the first of many things coming from that meeting!
