Lethal Weapon 5 is in Works!

I never thought we'd get another Riggs and Murtaugh caper, but looks like Lethal Weapon 5 is actually being developed!ComingSoon.net is reporting via TrackingB.com that Shane Black writer of the first Lethal Weapon is pounding out a new script for the series. Joel Silver has been contacted in regards to the script and he wants to continue the story.

The script is said to go as follows: "Homicidal Riggs (Mel Gibson) is about to retire, but pulls Murtaugh (Danny Glover) out of retirement to solve one final case, before they both officially head off into the sunset."

Although no contracts have been signed, both Mel Gibson and Danny Glover say that they are ready for one more film in the series. Gibson who has had a major down-pour of negative publicity as of late (and rightfully so, "sugar tit's"), might be looking to fall back into the public's favor. One may ask, is playing a homicidal cop the way to go? Riggs has been one of Gibson's more popular characters, so it is possible that Lethal Weapon 5 just may pan-out for Gibson. Time will tell.

What are your thoughts on Lethal Weapon 5? Would you watch another? Did you even like the last one? Has Gibson run his course in Hollywood? Will Joe Pesci, Rene Russo, and Chris Rock make appearences also?
