One big announcement Star Wars fans have been waiting for is the update to the Star Tours ride at both Disneyland in Anaheim California and Disney's Hollywood Studios in Florida. With the 501st Legion fan group on stage, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Jay Rasulo gave official word on the new ride! Checkout the full details below...
Jay Rasulo told the attendees at D23 that the current Star Tours ride would close it's doors October 2010 in order to begin an update to the Star Wars based ride. The new ride would open in 2011 in both Disneyland and Disney's Hollywood Studios. The ride would now feature 3D and would include a "immersive new elements that will take guests to many familiar places in the Star Wars galaxy." Fans were also treated to a short clip of what we can expect in the update to Star Tours, which I have for you below. The clip shows the StarSpeeder 3000 in the middle of the Boonta Eve Podrace. Longtime Star Tours fans will remember Disneyland stirring rumors of a podrace update to Star Tours back in 1999 when Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace first released.
