Stunning 'Mute' Concept Art

This morning via Twitter I stumbled upon the first piece of concept art (pictured above) for what will be director Duncan Jones next directorial effort titled "Mute". Popular Mechanics back in April spoke with Jones and he told the magazine that he would do another scifi in the vein of Blade Runner set in a futuristic Berlin. The brand new concept art for "Mute" screams Scott's Blade Runner and I couldn't be more excited to see how this one shapes up. For more details scroll down...

Duncan Jones explained to Popular Mechanics how and why he is making a another scifi film. He said, "I love Blade Runner, it's one of my favorite films, and I've always been really...depressed that there was never—not a sequel, because I don't think it's right to make a sequel about Blade Runner, but no one's really tried to make a film which was set in the same kind of world or had that same kind of field. So that's what I'm doing, a big-city mystery story that takes place in a future Berlin." Jones uses all the right words to make the scifi fanatic in me jump for joy. I too have always dreamed to something more from the world Ridley Scott created, but not necessarily a sequel to Blade Runner itself.

In June, Duncan Jones spoke with io9 and explain the concepts and story for "Mute" in a bit more detail. Jones told the news outlet that the script for "Mute" has been done since before he filmed Moon. Jones also teased a few of the characters. He said, "there's a couple of villains in there which I'm really excited about. They're so different than anything you've seen...they're going to be very unique, you're not going to have seen anyone like these two guys before." Since Jones interview with io9 news has come out that has pointed to these two villains as a comedy double-act.

Jones also has explained that the story although being a scifi, is very much a human story. "No aliens, nothing like that. It's a very human story, it's about normal, normal people having to live in this future city," Jones said. He continued, "You see why people are the way they are , and how they've maintained their humanity in these science-fiction settings. Or the opposite, why their humanity starts to be eroded. When they started to lose their humanity because of the world that they live in, and that's what this film is going to be about."

"Mute" is in pre-production and will be produced by Stuart Fenegan. Liberty Films reports that film will shoot in Berlin early 2010 with Studio Babelsberg. Mike Johnson (Sherlock Holmes) co-wrote "Mute" with Duncan Jones. A more specific synopsis was also released saying the film would follow: a woman whose disappearance causes a mystery for her partner, a mute bartender. When she disappears, he has to go up against the city's gangsters. Jones has received $25 million budget to film the scifi project, which should really allow the outstanding director to really wow us. More news on "Mute" as it breaks...

What say you? Does this new concept art for Mute get you excited? Strikeback...
