Del Toro & Disney Create DDY

Guillermo del Toro has a lot of his plate and he and Disney have set out to fill it even more! Last week Del Toro teased the online community with a big announcement. He hinted, "The key letter is “D” " and today at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, Disney revealed the creation of a new animated production label titled Double Dare You. The new animated division will be overseen by Guillermo del Toro and will focus on more chilling and thrilling stories that are fun for all ages. The idea for Disney to align themselves with Del Toro is perfect. DDY should prove to be a very profitable and worthwhile endeavor for all involved. Del Toro will serve as producer on every project that DDY creates and he also intends to also direct. Guillermo del Toro has a wonderful eye for fantasy and the supernatural world and having him in charge of everything the production label will make should keep the quality high as well as the profits.

Chairman of Walt Disney Studios Dick Cook, commented on the talents of Guillermo del Toro. He said, "Guillermo is a brilliant and visionary filmmaker, and we’re excited to be launching this new label with him. His knowledge and appreciation for Disney films, along with his penchant for creating worlds of fantasy, presented a great opportunity for us to explore a whole new genre of filmmaking for moviegoers of all ages. We have admired Guillermo’s imaginative approach to filmmaking for some time, and now we’re proud to be working with him to create films full of imaginative delights and lots of thrills at the same time."

Guillermo del Toro told attendees at D23 via video feed that Double Dare You plans to start production on a film titled, "Trollhunters". A film that is an original concept by Del Toro himself. The producer/director also hinted that all of the films produced under the DDY banner would be tied together. He said, "one feature that shall remain secret, but that you shall soon be very familiar with." Sadly, no timeline was given on "Trollhunters", so there is no telling how quickly we can expect to see the film in production or in theaters.

Del Toro also spoke about how excited he was to have created the new label with Disney and adding to their canon of characters. He said, "As a director, I love to take audiences into fantastic new worlds and provide them with some anxious moments in the process. It is part of the Disney canon to create thrilling, unforgettable moments and villains in all their classic films. It is my privilege for DDY to continue in this tradition." Guillermo del Toro continued to hype his and Disney's idea to take the label in a whole new direction. He said, "I look forward to coming up with fresh and original stories that will take Disney films in a whole new direction. The emphasis is on fun, and we have some great ideas already on the storyboards." His last comment there is in reference to "Trollhunters", the first film under the DDY production label.
