Darren Lynn Bousman's remake of Charles Kaufman's 1980 Troma cult classic is gearing up to begin shooting in Winnipeg and over the weekend news broke on the mommy of "Mother's Day". The original cult classic was a devilish tale that followed two brothers as they raped and murdered to impress their mother. Bousman's update has been tagged as more of a "psychological thriller" with the family now fixating their deviant and wicked plans on a family who is the current residents of the evil family's old home. The updated scripted was written by Charles Kaufman and Scott Milam gave it the modern spin Bousman will use. Joining Rebecca De Mornay on "Mother's Day" as her children are Deborah Ann Woll, Matt O'Leary and Patrick Flueger. Also in the film as the would be victims are Jaime King, Shawn Ashmore, Briana Evigan and Alexa Vega. Lyriq Bent and Lisa Marcos also have undefined supporting roles.
Never being a huge fan of Rebecca De Mornay, I can't get too excited about the casting. I will admit she is a nice fit for the role and definitely has the chops to pull off the gig, but I remain only marginally intrigued by the remake. Personally I would much rather Bousman be making a sequel to Repo! The Genetic Opera, but for now I guess I will just have to wait. More news on "Mother's Day" as it develops...
