Alex Garland Wrote 'Dredd'

Twitter has its good and bad, I hate all of the ad and porn bots, but sometimes we get some pretty cool breaking news like I have for you today. Comic book artist Mark Simpson who goes by the pseudonym of Jock posted to his Twitter account, "working through script visuals for Judge Dredd movie. Alex Garland writes a great script." Jock's tweet whether he knew it or not was the first anyone had heard that Garland was penning the script for the "Judge Dredd" reboot. We initially heard that the film would be re-booted back in December of 2008 and later saw concept art from Jock over at io9, but this is the first news of someone specifically penning the script.

Alex Garland has spent most of his writing career working along side Danny Boyle scripting The Beach, Sunshine and 28 Days Later for the director. Garland feels like a solid choice and should do a much better take on the brutal comic character than the 1995 Sylvester Stallone action did. It should be noted that Jock did later remove the tweet about Garland and never gave an explanation to the removal. Most likely this news was not suppose to be out and Jock was asked to remove it. More news on "Judge Dredd" as it breaks...

What say you? Are you interested in what Garland can do with Judge Dredd? Strikeback...
