Texas Chainsaw Massacre is finding itself a new home. The film which was originally created by New Line Cinema and later remade by Platinum Dunes is moving over to Twisted Pictures. Yes, those guys. The ones who continue to crap out further sequels to Saw. To read all the details, after the break...
Twisted Pictures which falls under the Lionsgate banner is striking a deal for multiple pictures all of which will be given a modern take. The original 1974 Tobe Hooper film and later remakes by Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes remained set in the 70's era, however Twisted Pictures wants things to be current. They are also planning to give the franchise a 3-D treatment. Twisted Pictures has hired Stephen Susco (The Grudge) to pen the 3-D screenplay, with Carl Mazzocone, Mark Burg and Oren Koules set up to produce.
I can't get too excited for this news. I love the original Hooper films and to a lesser extent enjoyed the Platinum Dunes efforts, but so far what I have seen from Twisted Pictures, makes me nervous. Every year there is another Saw film and the quality has been left completely out, ever since the original film. I fear Twisted could do the same thing here with 'Massacre' and using the latest gimmick does not help the cause at all.
