This news comes with a super heavy sigh but, New Line are developing a sequel to National Lampoon's Vacation that would focus on Clark Griswald's son Rusty. The idea is, Rusty has a family of his own now and intends to take them on a cross-country vacation in vein of his family's original outing. For more details on this disappointing news after the jump...
New Line now apart of Warner Brothers (who control rights to the National Lampoon's Vacation rights) is seeking writers to pen a script off the pre-described idea. The studio has hired Wedding Crashers director David Dobkin to produce the sequel of sorts with a option to direct as well. Heat Vision reports that New Line intends to "make a movie that skews more toward Planes, Trains and Automobiles or Little Miss Sunshine than RV or Are We There Yet?"
New Line knowing full well that a National Lampoon's Vacation movie wouldn't be the same without Clark Griswald and his wife Ellen, plan to include cameo rolls for both Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo as grandparents. However, no deals have been made with either to return yet.
I am completely opposed to this idea, although if New Line could persuade Anthony Michael Hall to return as Rusty (he was Clark's original son in the 1983 film), this project could become a little more enticing. It goes without saying that if Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo are not apart of this film, then my interest remains null. More on a new Vacation as it develops...
