Actor Chris Pine is proving to be a hot commodity in Hollywood these days. The talented actor who got his break in Joe Carnahan's Smokin' Aces became a viable hit this year after "Star Trek" was a huge success at the box office and Paramount has taken notice. The studio is in final negotiations for Pine to star in the next Jack Ryan installment. Read the full details below...
Chris Pine is currently filming "Unstoppable" with Denzel Washington for 20th Century Fox with Tony Scott directing. The actor however, is positioning himself to stay fairly busy (mainly at Paramount). Pine is in final talks to star in "The Art of Making Money" a film that D.J. Caruso intends to begin filming early next year for Paramount. If Pine does indeed sign on to play Jack Ryan he will be the fourth actor to step into the role and could likely begin shooting another Jack Ryan film or perhaps "Star Trek 2" after finishing up 'Money' with Caruso.
Variety indicates that Pine is in place to come aboard as the next Jack Ryan film takes shape. Back in August Lorenzo di Bonaventura said that a original concept script had been turned in to Paramount, however no director or actors were attached at that point. He also confirmed the film would look at the Ryan character in his early 30's. So the Chris Pine casting definitely fits the bill. Paramount commented on the potential of adding Pine to the next film. Adam Goodman said, "Tom Clancy created an unforgettable character with Jack Ryan. With Chris in this role, we've taken our first step in creating a re-boot that lives up to the successful lineage of the franchise." Now they only need a director!
The real question is, how quickly will Paramount move to get another Ryan story into theaters? With Pine not, free until most likely Spring of 2010, it is highly doubtful that we will see a new Jack Ryan movie before 2011. This news also begins to create a puzzle to when another Star Trek will get made. More news on all of Chris Pine's developments as the break...
