Ridley Scott Returns to Alien

Last night Variety reported that Ridley Scott will indeed return to his roots and direct the "Alien" prequel for Twentieth Century Fox. That's right, Scott is returning to his first mega hit Alien trying to breathe some life back into the franchise after the Aliens vs. Predator films sullied the brand so badly. Jon Spaihts will pen the prequel for 20th Century Fox with Scott Free producing and Scott attached to direct. The plan is begin lensing the prequel before the end of the year.

The news of Ridley Scott returning to Alien is a huge relief. Back in May, Ridley's brother Tony Scott had reported that Carl Rinsch was going to helm the prequel. No real buzz circulated around hiring Rinsch to direct the prequel, so we can only assume that 20th Century Fox thought it wiser to bring in the big guns and do the prequel justice. While acquiring Ridley definitely boosts my interest in the prequel, Jon Spaihts I still have my reservations about irregardless of his apparent "go-to-guy" status right now. More news on Scott's Alien prequel as it develops...

What say you? Does having Ridley Scott return to Alien have you interested in the prequel? Strikeback...
