Schofizzy has been pretty skeptical about the latest Todd Phillips comedy starring Zach Galifianakis called "Due Date", but news comes today that forces me to stick my foot firmly in my mouth. Variety reports that the expecting father road trip comedy has landed Iron Man himself Robert Downey Jr. to the play the husband racing across the country to make the birth of his first child. Regardless of the fact that "Due Date" sounds like a pretty generic concept, having Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis playing off each other in a comedy sounds quite promising.
Robert Downey Jr. is a flawless comedian. The guy just has that certain flare that comes across perfectly onscreen. I have always loved his charming sarcasm, but now you add Zach Galifianakis to the mix, and that definately bolsters my interest considerably. Galifianakis is also equally comical and witty with his dry cynicism. I think these two guys together will be worth admission regardless of how generic the movie ends up being. The fact they are not buddies in "Due Date", and are mismatched partners adds to both Galifianakis and Downey Jr.'s strengths. Furthermore, the laughs that Downey Jr. and Galifianakis will conjure up together hopefully will outweigh any of my previous hold-ups. It is true, I have been pretty unsupportive of Zach Galifianakis chosing to do a generic comedy again, but now with Robert Downey Jr. aboard I will watch this project with a bit more interest. "Due Date" will begin lensing in September for an early June 2010 release. Todd Phillips is directing off a script written by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland and then later revised by Adam Sztykiel. More news on "Due Date" as it develops...
What say you? Does the comedy team of Robert Downey Jr & Zach Galifianakis perk your interests? Strikeback...
