No news on a "Thundercats" movie has been circulating for quite sometime now, but that all changed last night when Movieline premiered some concept art from director Jerry O’Flaherty. The said concept art is brilliant and really increases my anticipation of this film. To read more about the progress on a "Thundercats" film and see the concept art scroll down...
"Thundercats" was first announced by Warner Brothers way back in 2007, but has since been fairly silent. In the span of the last two years Jerry O’Flaherty was brought on to direct a script that Paul Sopocy had penned. The script followed a group of humanoid cats who must flee their planet of Thundera after it's destroyed. Once crash-landing on another planet, Third Earth, they must thwart Mumm-Ra, an evil sorcerer, bent on killing them off. The film was built up to focus on Lion-O as he grew to become the leader of the Thundercats. The film was being optioned as a CGI-animated feature and not a live-action adaptation of the popular 80's cartoon. This however was where the news trailed fizzled out and nothing much was heard of a "Thundercats" movie expect for a interesting fan-made trailer that appeared last year.
Movieline reports that while at Comic Con this year, they got their eyeballs on Jerry O’Flaherty's amazing concept art and now, I have it here for you below. There are 4 images included below, but the one that will catch most everyone's eye is of Lion-O, the leader of the Thundercats. I love the look to Lion-O and the rest of the images and really hope that "Thundercats" turns out to be a solid film. More news to follow as it develops, until then checkout the eye-popping concept art from Jerry O’Flaherty below...
