Castlevania Nabs 'Saw' Helmer

Castlevania is one of a few videogames that you knew one day it would get made into a feature film. The idea of making Castlevania into a movie has been bouncing around for quite some time now with various directors attached including Paul W.S. Anderson and Sylvain White. Luckily, the Konami property has taken a step in the right direction by landing Saw creator James Wan to direct "Castlevania" for Crystal Sky productions. Read more about "Castlevania" below...

Variety reported last Sunday that James Wan was in final negotiations with Crystal Sky, on monday Wan posted via his myspace blog that he is in fact making "Castlevania". Wan went onto explain that it is still very early on, but it is one of his next projects. He confirmed by adding, "It's still early on, but I'm truly excited about this project, and i think it will allow me to showcase aside of my film-making that I love - designs and visual. The world of Castlevania is so rich and beautiful, coupled with a great premise and lush characters...I'm honoured to be shepherding this." James Wan will be directing off a Ian Jeffers and Steven Paul (Ghost Rider) will produce. Variety described the script as: Centering on the battle between Dracula and the Belmont clan of vampire hunters in a labyrinthine fortress in the Carpathian mountains.

The original Nintendo Castlevania is a game that I hold close to my heart and prior to the announcement of James Wan helming, I was throughly disappointed in the prospect of another video game being destroyed by Paul W.S. Anderson. Quite simply, Anderson is a hack, his movies suck and they are in general a waste of time and money. Anderson can also be credited as ruining any credible career Milla Jovovich once had. I hope that W.S. Anderson's portion of the script has been edited-out by Jeffers, because I would hate to think any of Anderson's stink be left on this project. As for Wan, the original Saw was a great film. I enjoyed Dead Silence for what it was, it had a lot of flaws, but overall still enjoyable. Death Sentence which apparently isn't all that well recieved, was pretty badass in my humble opinion. I can watch it anytime I see it on and it remains just as powerful as the first time through. So my interests in "Castlevania" are perked. I am not jumping for joy yet, but I am interested to see what comes of the project now that it has some real direction behind the camera. More news on "Castlevania" as it develops....

What say you? Do you want to see a Castlevania film? Getting tired of vampires yet? Strikeback...
