Empire Magazine took a tour of 20th Century Fox's newest X-Men feature Wolverine and has some inside scoop regarding the film and a few of its stars. Empire features Hugh Jackman in character on the cover including another great image inside. "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" releases May 1st 2009 and it is said that its full trailer will be attached "Day the Earth Stood Still."
Dany Huston who plays William Stryker spoke a little bit about the depth of his sinister character. "The thing about Stryker is that he feels like he's got this God-given right, that he's on a crusade.
He both loves and hates mutants, because his son was a mutant and murdered his wife. So he understands what they're going through but despises their force, their potential danger. It's wonderfully complicated." Huston continued with talk of Wolverine and Sabertooth, "In Logan and Creed, Stryker finds his children and hones their powers like racehorses. But as in the world of horseracing, when your horse breaks his leg and is suddenly useless, he has a very cold way of looking at them. And he's also a mad scientist excited by the possibilities of what he can do to mutants."
Hugh Jackman was quick to add that "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" could potentialy lead directly into the original X-Men film. "There's a scene in the first X-Men movie where Wolverine's introduced in a bar, fighting in a cage, and you felt that he did this every night of his life. If this movie is successful, you should feel that this guy can walk straight off the end of this film and into that bar." Nice to know that they are at least keeping continuity of the series going. Luckily for FOX, Wolverine doesn't age, so they can flip from prequel to sequels and Jackman essentially works either way. If of course, this leads into potential more stand alone Wolverine films. In my wetest dreams, Marvel would adapt to doing VS. films. The pot could potentially never run dry with limitless matches of various superheroes and villains. Thoughts on Wolverine? What do you think of Huston's comments on Stryker? Does Wolverine look outstanding or could it just be more of the same? Does it matter? Strikeback....
