Captain America Enlists Itself a Director

Captain America: First Avenger isn't scheduled for release till 2011 and doesn't even have a completed script or writers hired, but Marvel has hired themselves a director to helm the comic book property. THR reports that The Rocketeer and Jumanji director Joe Johnston, has signed to direct the studios take on the classic character.

Marvel reports that Johnston has been in talks with Marvel for two years now developing and discussing the general direction the WWII superhero should take. Marvel studios seem sure that the Honey I Shrunk the Kids director will bring a great vision to the iconic superhero. Kevin Feige, who is producing Captain America sopke of Johnston and said, "This is a guy who designed the vehicles for 'Star Wars,' who storyboarded the convoy action sequence for 'Raiders of the Lost Ark.' From 'Rocketeer' to 'October Sky' to 'The Wolfman,' you can look at pieces of his movies and see how they lead to this one." So, clearly Marvel and their team feel they definately have their guy!

As previously reported Captain America: First Avenger will be a period piece set during WWII and Captain America's inception. The film will however lead into the present day setting up Capatin America's role in the upcoming Marvel Avengers film.
