'Witch Hunters' Adds Writer

Tommy Wirkola at the very least really knows how to get fanboys excited. He is the creator and director behind this year's Dead Snow. If you are unfamiliar with Dead Snow, all I have to say is Nazi Zombies! So, have I got your attention? I thought so. Well back in May I reported about Wirkola's follow up idea, which is being produced by ParamountAdam McKay and Will Ferrell under their Gary Sanchez Productions "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters". This week 'Witch Hunters' has an added a new writer to the Wirkola project in hopes to beef up the script. Find out who has joined the team and a bit more about 'Hansel & Gretel' after the break...

Gary Sanchez Productions, Paramount and Tommy Wirkola have hired Dante Harper to add to Wirkola's script. Harper has previously freshened up a script for David Fincher titled "Black Hole" that most of the online community had deemed dead over at Paramount.

The idea is that "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters" would follow the grown up Hansel and Gretel. After their previous run in with the children eating witch, Hansel and Gretel have become bitter Witch Hunters. Back in May, Adam McKay described the idea as "hybrid old-timey feeling" gloating about pump action shotguns while still incorporating the old world flair. This week THR reports that the idea is to make "gory but funny" horror-action comedy. The trade goes as far as to mention a Shaun of the Dead feel.

Bringing on Harper to add to Wirkola's script should be a positive. Wirkola's last film, Dead Snow was an outstanding idea that lacked the follow through in the story. While I still would recommend any zombie fan see, Dead Snow , it could have been a lot better. Harper should be able to add enough so that Wirkola's script can avoid some of the pitfalls Dead Snow suffered from. Although those comments can be taken with a grain of salt, considering I have no real opinion on Harper's writing style, having never read or seen any of his work.
