We are steadily moving closer to a shooting start for Marvel's "Thor" directed by Kenneth Branagh and today trades have confirmed the Asgardian God of Thunder has found his trio of Warriors. Find out who exactly will be playing who after the jump...
We know that "Thor" will begin lensing in January of 2010, but now we have a much clearer picture of who will be in front of the cameras when they finally get rolling. Honestly, the more and more I read and report about this film, the more excited I get. Thor has always been near the top of my Marvel hero list and with Kenneth Branagh directing and this cast of actors, hot damn is this flick gonna kick all kinds of ass!
Variety confirms that Ray Stevenson, Stuart Townsend and Tadanobu Asano have been cast as The Warriors Three. Stevenson, who played the Punisher in Marvel's most recent version of the vigilante, will play Volstagg the Valiant. Townsend will play the self-titled ladies man Fandral the Dashing, while Asano will play Hogun the Grim. Branagh and Marvel nailed these castings perfectly. I can't stress enough how perfect these guys are for the roles. It is gonna be a true treat to see these three fighting alongside Chris Hemsworth as Thor.
This news does rule out the previous rumor of Brian Blessed being cast as Volstagg. Let's hope that there is still some sort of small role for old Blessed, he seems like a natural for some type of Asgardian presence.
"Thor" will be directed by Kenneth Branagh and the cast now includes, Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Anthony Hopkins (Odin), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Natalie Portman (Jane Foster), Jaimie Alexander (Sif), Stuart Townsend (Fandral), Ray Stevenson (Volstagg) and Tadanobu Asano (Hogun). The fantasy action is slated for a May 20th, 2011 release. More news is sure to follow as it develops...
