Empire Magazine revealed a brand new image of Iron Man on their most recent cover, but within the pages of that magazine lies an interview with The Hurt Locker star Jeremy Renner. His interview points to the possibility of the 38 year-old actor becoming one of the pivotal members in The Avengers. Read the full report after the break...
Back when "Iron Man 2" had finished principle photography Empire had a chance to talk with Jeremy Renner. Renner who has recently received some much due praise for his role in Kathryn Bigelow's The Hurt Locker was asked if their was any possibility that he would be dawning the stars and stripes of Marvel's Captain America. Renner quickly shot down that line of questioning saying he was too old for the role, however the actor did raise an eyebrow to one of the other members to Marvel's Avengers.
He said, "I met with the Marvel guys, actually, but we didn’t talk about Captain America. But one of the writers, Zak Penn, we’ve become friends over time and he was thinking maybe Hawkeye could be interesting." Interesting? Shoot, Renner is a lock for Hawkeye! Anybody see 28 Weeks Later? I'll refresh your memory, Renner played Doyle (a sniper with an attitude) a role in retrospect that seems like an audition for the sure shot Marvel superhero Hawkeye. There is no doubt Jeremy Renner has the huevos and demeanor to make a perfect Hawkeye no matter how he is used.
Some of you non-Marvel readers may be saying who the hell is Hawkeye? First off, shame on you! Secondly, he is Clint Barton, an orphan who was trained by circus performers to wield a bow and arrow. After refining his talents Barton sees Iron Man and decides to use his skills for good and takes on the moniker of Hawkeye. He later joins the Avengers and has been a member of the team for a great number of years. Like Tony Stark, Clint Barton/Hawkeye has no super powers. He is a regular human who is in flawless physical shape and is a master marksman.
The real question is just how does Marvel intend to showcase Hawkeye if and when they use him? Would they give Hawkeye his own feature ala Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor and Captain America? Would he only appear as a cameo role perhaps in the upcoming "Thor" or "First Avenger: Captain America"? Does this mean that Hawkeye will be featured in "The Avengers"?

I think it would be absurd not to include Hawkeye in forthcoming Marvel films. Having him pop-up in "Thor" or "First Avenger: Captain America" is a great idea to get the fan base excited. Furthermore Jeremy Renner is a perfect guy to get them excited.
Lastly, don't get too dead set on Jeremy Renner playing Hawkeye, because the actor was clear to point out that nothing is finalized."No offer has been made. I think there’s a little ways from that," he confirmed. The California native did say it would be an interesting role and is excited to be considered.
Stay tuned for news surrounding Hawkeye and all things Marvel...
