Exciting news Schofizzy readers, a story broke today that tell us Sony is eager to get another Zombieland in theaters! Not only is Sony keen on the idea but director Ruben Fleischer is ready to Nut Up or Shut Up at least one more time. Read the full story after the jump...
Anyone who saw Zombieland would agree, that another installment would be might fine, but director Ruben Fleischer tells Clint Morris over at Moviehole that he has something else up his sleeve for the sequel. Fleischer wants to give Zombieland the 3D treatment! Fleischer explains, "The genre really lends itself to [3-D]." Mr. Fleischer pointed to today's technology and the example of "Avatar" that the technology is ready to be utilized. The prospect of having zombies bit flung at us through use of 3D animation sounds titular at the very least. Flesicher's Zombieland was a throughly enjoyable ride and enhancing that with 3D animation should only prove to better the final project.
3D is all the rage right now and I love it, but what made Zombieland work so well was it's outstanding cast including; Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin, not to mention the solid screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Much of my concern on a sequel to Zombieland is centered around Ruben Fleischer and Sony's ability to bring back the cast for some more zombie dodging. Luckily Fleischer already tells Clint that the original cast is all excited for more rules and a new setting.
As for a story line or setting to Zombieland 2, that is yet to be determined. Ruben Fleischer did not give any further comments on a timeline other than "whenever we crack it." Which quickly leads us to believe the next installment of Zombieland is still very early in development. Were talking infancy folks. More news on Zombieland 2 as it develops...
