Hansel & Gretel Witch Hunters

Ever wondered what happened to Hansel and Gretel after they escaped from ginger bread house and the evil witch who tried to eat them? Well apparently Dead Snow director Tommy Wirkola, has put some serious though into it and he has decided to follow up his semi-hit Dead Snow with "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters." Not only that but Gary Sanchez Productions helmed by Adam McKay and Will Ferrell have optioned the horror comedy flick.

Adam McKay talked with THR and tells the news outlet a bit about the idea Wirkola is currently outlining. "The idea is, they've grown up and they hunt witches. It's a hybrid sort of old-timey feeling, yet there's pump-action shotguns. Modern technology but in an old style." A hybrid steampunk vibe meets gun totting Hansel and Gretel sounds freaking insane. McKay and Ferrell felt the same saying, "We heard it and we were just like, 'That's a freakin' franchise! You could make three of those!'" Three might be milking the cow dry, but one should prove to be a romping good time.

The film will be co-produced by Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Kevin Messick and Chris Henchy for Paramount. Messick brought the property to the Sanchez company and it will be his first time working with with the Gary Sanchez crew. McKay gave a big vote of confindence towards Messnick by telling THR, "Kevin Messick knows how to put together movies as well as how to make them." No word on how soon "Hanzel and Gretel: Witch Hunters" will go into production. More news to follow as it develops....

What say you? Does a horror/comedy of Hansel and Gretel all grown up hunting witches sounds like a rousing good time? Strikeback...
