McG Denies The Rock!

Breaking News: "Terminator Salvation" director McG says Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson is not in his next project, "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo." Today Sci Fi Wire spoke with the director and he debunked the story reported over the weekend by Production Weekly.

McG told Sci Fi Wire when asked about having Dwayne Johnson star in his adaptation of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, "He's not. I don't know where that came from. I've never spoken to Dwayne Johnson." McG continued, "I wish him every success, but I never spoke to Dwayne about this. I like him. He's great. He's a wonderful human being and an excellent screen presence, but we have not spoken about 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Not a word." So there you have it straight from the director's mouth.

Clearly Sci Fi Wire's next question was, So do you have a leading man, then? McG replied, "I do not. I'm out to Will Smith." McG also told the news outlet that Disney is indeed currently prepping the film and they need to move quickly on a leading male for Captain Nemo. He told Sci Fi Wire his plans on wooing Smith into the role. "My intention is to show him Terminator and see if he responds to it. We're friendly. Weíll see if it's in the cards." I for one love the idea of Will Smith and would go for him over Dwayne Johnson any day of the week.

So what is the deal? Is now even Production Weekly reporting false stories? McG claims the report is untrue and Dwayne Johnson is definately not cast. Has Disney gone behind McG's back and hired 'The Rock' on their own? Dwayne Johnson's imdb page shows him signed on to a Untitled Tomorrowland Project for Disney, did Production Weekly just jumble their information? Did Disney perhaps sign 'The Rock' to a two-picture deal and have yet to fill-in McG on the details? It's not unlikely. McG has been hyper-wrapped up in finalizing "Terminator Salvation" and Disney could have very well hired the ex-WWE star for a supporting role in McG's "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo" without telling him. More news to develop as it becomes available...

What say you? Is this a good thing that Dwayne Johnson is not the title character Nemo? Strikeback...
