"Iron Man II" has been filming for almost a month now and we have gotten a few tidbits here and there. Today comes another bit from actor Sam Rockwell. Rockwell sat down with MTV and talked a bit about his character in the sequel.
First up, Rockwell assures that we will not be seeing a grey-haired Justin Hammer. In the comics Hammer was british and much older than Stark, but here in "Iron Man II" things are different. Sam Rockwell told MTV, "They wanted to go with a rival for Tony Stark who is closer to his age, and make him American." MTV showed Rockwell a picture of Hammer from issue #240 and his comments were prtty funny. He said, "That looks like Jeremy Irons. I guess they couldn’t get Jeremy Irons for it."
Rockwell also told MTV that he would not be doing any fighting in "Iron Man II" instead he would be providing the brains to any evil plans aimed at Tony Stark. "My character is the brains, not the brawn," he explained. Rockwell's comments lead me to believe that he will be the mastermind pulling either Black Widow or Whiplash strings.
Lastly, Rockwell told MTV that alot of improv has been going on during filming. One would only hope that means Rockwell and Downey Jr. are doing a bit of verbal sparring together. Both Rockwell and Robert Downey Jr. are masters of sarcasim and I truely hope to see more of it in "Iron Man II". More news as it develops...
What say you? Do you like that Favreau is taking liberties with Iron Man characters or should they remain as created? Strikeback...
