Cinematical has broke news that a sequel that should have never been made has apparently already been shot and will release this fall in limited theaters. Yesterday the news outlet broke a story that "Easy Rider: The Ride Back" is ready for release. Wait a second, a sequel to Easy Rider? What the fuck for? Easy Rider is a fantastic film that needed no sequel, but leave it to someone to screw with beloved films.
The film has apparently been made by a indie film company called Pan America Pictures and is scripted by Phil Pitzer and Dustin Rikert. Rikert also directed the unneeded sequel. The film will feature none of the original cast (thank God), and will follow the brother of Peter Fonda's character Wyatt from the original film. Wyatt's brother will follow in his brother's footsteps and set off across the U.S. on a motorcycle with his pal Wes Coast. The press release elaborated the synopsis by saying: the two friends embark upon an adventure that will force them to confront the past in order to make reparations with the present. The film is also said to cover a time frame ranging from the 1940's to present day. Talk about ambitious for a sequel that is destined to be hated!
This sounds like a shitty project, one that should have never been made and I will definately avoid. The studio behind this had to fly it under the radar, because I am sure there are plenty more people out there that would hate to see a sequel to Easy Rider. Regardless, it has been made it will release sometime in September.
What say you? Is a Easy Rider sequel a good idea? Will you go see this film? Strikeback...
