Sadly, the wildly entertaining Repo! The Genetic Opera did not do so well in theaters. The film in a very limited release (never more than 11 theaters at any given time), brought in a mere $179 worldwide. The Terrance Zdunich creation, which he see's as a trilogy, may never get to live up to it's full potential. Alexa Vega, who plays Shilo Wallace in Repo! recently spoke with Movie Hole about how hopeful she and the rest of the cast are about continuing Zdunich's story. Check out what the former Spy Kid star had to say below...
"The story’s not yet finished. There’s so much left, kind of, to wonder. "Okay, what happens to GeneCo?" Or, "How did they get here?" Or, you know, "Where’s Shilo going?" So, I mean, there’s so many questions that still need to be answered. And I think that it would be so exciting to get this group together. It’s really rare, when you find people that you really enjoy working with," Alexa explained. Vega could not be more right. Anyone who enjoyed Repo! (not everyone will be able to appreciate it's glory) knows exactly what Alexa is saying. The film does leave so many questions to be answered.
Alexa Vega continued to ellaborate on how everyone involved with Repo! would jump at the chance to make a sequel or even a prequel. "From the very, very beginning, we always talked about a prequel or a sequel to this movie. And it’s hard, because as of right now, we all want to do it, but, you know, it didn’t really do as we hoped. And we didn’t really have a lot of support. But we’re hoping that the fans will come back, and it will be an underground cult classic that will grow, and that will eventually spark us to do either the prequel or the sequel to this film."Lionsgate to this point, has no intension of greenlighting a sequel, leaving Repo! to grow to cult status on dvd, as Alexa said. Hopefully that does indeed happen. I know I have already purchased my copy and would go see it again, in a heartbeat, if a local theater ran midnight shows like the Rocky Horror Picture Show does across the nation. Repo! deserves at minimum, a straight-to-dvd sequel or prequel. Surely Lionsgate can take some revenue from all the cash they make on the terrible, yet profitable Saw series. Simply Repo!, appears to be in the fate of the fans and word of mouth to generate enough interest to get somebody to finance a sequel. Let's get it done people....
What say you? If you haven't seen it, watch it! Strikeback....
