Heard is Chenault in Rum Diary

If your a fan of Hunter S. Thompson then you have been waiting for "The Rum Diary" for what seems like forever. In perfect fashion, Johnny Depp recreated Hunter S. Thompson in the 1998 film Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Since the acclaim of the fore mentioned film Depp has rumbled about makeing a follow up to the film, thus "The Rum Diary." Eleven years later and the adaptation of the Hunter S. Thompson's novel will begin shooting this April in Puerto Rico.

As reported here back in January, "The Rum Diary" follows divorced alcoholic and struggling novelist Paul Kemp (Depp), who decides to kick around San Juan until his ship comes in, working as a journalist for a daily newspaper that’s on its last legs, drinking gallons of rum and experimenting with LSD. With his new friend Bob Sala by his side, he becomes entangled in a corrupt hotel development scheme with a slick PR consultant named Sanderson, and falls in love with Sanderson’s unattainable girlfriend, Chenault.

Yesterday reports flew in that Amber Heard is in final negotiations to play Chenault. Newcomer Heard who was most recently seen as Seth Rogen's onscreen girlfriend in Pineapple Express, has also starred in All the Boys Love Mandy Lane and releasing this year "The Informers." It is reported that Heard has became the front runner for the film over both Keira Knightley and Scarlett Johansson, who were reluctant towards the role because of the the amount of nudity required.

What say you? Is Amber Heard a strong choice? With the economy in the crapper and Heard a releative unknown, the choice to sign her seems fairly logical over Johansson or Knightley who would want a much larger paycheck. Strikeback...
