From MTV to Elm Street

Platinum Dunes have found their director for their next remake "A Nightmare on Elm Street" and the news is a bit of a questionable one. Various News sources are reporting that Samuel Bayer will helm the reboot of the iconic franchise. Some of you may be saying, "Who the hell is Samuel Bayer?" Well, he is a pretty famous music video director who has done some outstanding videos including Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit," The Cranberries's "Zombie" and most of the videos for Green Day's last album "American Idiot."

His music video acclaim honestly does nothing for me. This doesn't smell like teen spirit, but instead a very big disappointment. Were talking about remaking one of the greatest horror franchises ever, not some hokey insignificant film. Bayer hasn't even directed a full length feature to date. He is/was currently in pre-production on "Fiasco Heights" but, by the sound of this news, "A Nightmare on Elm Street" will likely trump the other project and be the directors first feature length film. (Talk about jumping in with both feet!)

Production on "A Nightmare on Elm Street" is set to begin this April in suburbs of Chicago and this becomes the first time I really question Platinum Dunes decision on one of their remakes. Bayer must have really impressed the guys over at Platinum Dunes or just nobody was willing to risk touching the famed series. Back in the beginning of the month, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form told us, "We need to find a visual director who can blow people away," for the Nightmare reboot. Apparently they found that in Samuel Bayer. I don't disagree that Bayer has created some really visually stunning music videos, but full length film is alot different than a 3 to 4 minute music video. I really hope Fuller and Form know something we don't, becasue for now, I am unconvinced.
