Schofizzy's 20 Most Anticipated Fall Movies (Part 4 of 4)

Seems how fall (although if you live in California like I, it sure doesn't feel like it!) is vastly approaching, I figured I'd give you all my 20 most anticipated films of the next three months! Being the home stretch and oscar season we are bound to find some diamonds in the rough out there, but here are 20 films that I have had my eyes on for a while now and all look quite good and some look phenominal! There were a few that almost made the list, but ultimately they are absent! Finishing the countdown, here's 5-1...

5. APPALOOSA
If there is one thing I love it is a good western! The westward movement is one of my all time favorite histroical periods and Appaloosa looks like it will deliver on all cylinders. Appaloosa is Ed Harris's pet project, which he driects and stars in. He approached Viggo Mortenson about doing the film back when he and his co-star premiered A History of Violence at Cannes in 2005. Based on the novel by Robert B. Parker, the film begins when Virgil Cole and Everett Hitch arrive in Appaloosa, they find a town suffering at the hands of a rancher named Randall Bragg that means to own everything in it, and who has already left the city Marshall and one of his deputies dead. Cole and Hitch are used to cleaning up after scavengers, but this one raises the stakes by playing not by the rules, but with emotion. Cole and Hitch are hired to save the town from Bragg, but a young attractive widow arrives to complicate matters. The western looks gritty and dark and should prove to be an amazing cinematic achievement by Harris. Appaloosa releases October 3rd in wide release.

4. SYNECDOCHE, NEW YORK
Famed writer Charlie Kaufman helms his first directorial effort here in Synecdouche, New York. The story revolves around a theater director who struggles with his work, and the women in his life, as he attempts to create a life-size replica of New York inside a warehouse as part of his new play. This film has a fantastic cast that includes Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Catherine Keener, Emily Watson, Dianne West, Tom Noonan, and Samantha Morton. Kaufman who has had the amazing writting credits including Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind, Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, Human Nature, and Confessions of a Dangerious Mind has me intrigued by the fact that this is the first film he will both write and direct. Kaufman's scripts in the past have made actors that I could careless for, like Meryl Streep and Jim Carrey, unfold into reveered thespians or at least tolerable actors, like Cameron Diaz in Being John Malkovich. Now to see Phillip Seymour Hoffman under Kaufman's guise alone is worth admission. Synecdouche, New York releases October 24th in limited release.

3. CHOKE
Sam Rockweel has proven to be a notable actor in Hollywood that demands attention. His roles have been amazing in films like Snow Angels, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Matchstick Men, and Joshua and he is absolutley hilarious in Hitchhicker's Guide to the Galaxy. Here in Choke, Rockwell plays Victor Mancini, a sex-addicted con-man who pays for his mother's hospital bills by playing on the sympathies of those who rescue him from choking to death. The film is based off Chuck Palahniuk novel of the same name. If you have seen the red-band trailers for Choke, you know that this film is not for the faint of heart and it doesn't hold back in the slightest. Choke looks to be dark and sadistic with hilarity throughout and Rockwell looks to really deliver on the dark crass comedy and its nature. Angelica Huston plays Rockwell's ill mother and looks to provide some insight into why Rockwell's character is the way he is. This is a film I have been very interested in for some time now and cannot wait till September 26th when it finally has its limited theatrical release.

2. EAGLE EYE
D.J. Caruso has been helming tv series for quite sometime but his breakout hit Disturbia marked the first time he had directed for thr big screen. Disturbia was a perfect re-invision of Hitchcock's masterpiece Rear Window. This time around Caruso re-enlists the help of Shia LaBeouf again for his second Hitchcock revamp, Eagle Eye! Eagle Eye is a follows along the same story as North by Northwest with only a 2008 reboot. Shia LaBeouf plays Jerry who along with Michelle Monaghan who plays, Rachel, become the pawns of a mysterious woman they have never met, but who seems to know their every move. Realizing they are being used to further her plot for a political assassination, they must work together to outwit the woman before she has them killed. The film looks like a high energy thriller with amazing stunts and action pieces. If Disturbia is anything to gauge, Eagle Eye is going to be one hell of a ride. It has also recently been announced that Eagle Eye will be featured on IMAX! If you have yet to see a film on IMAX, I highly reccommend it. It adds a whole new level to any film, when it is displayed on a screen of IMAX's magnitude. Now I am a huge fan of Hitchcock and Caruso's first attempt was nearly flawless, so needless to say I'm eagerly awaiting this release! The cast is also nothing to balk at either, Shia LaBeouf, Billy Bob Thorton and the ravishing Rosario Dawson really increase my anticipation on the release. Eagle Eye has a wide release coming at you September 26th!

1. BURN AFTER READING
The brothers Coen are truely my favorite directors out there! These guys are simply genuises! I have yet to watch a film of theirs I didn't love. Their career's have been filled with both amazingly comical and deeply dramatic films that have grabbed my attention from the get-go and never to let go. Most of the Coen brothers films I watch nearly every year if not more, especially the stand-outs like Fargo, Raising Arizona, The Big Lebowski, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, and last years Best Film winner No Country For Old Men. These are just a few of the brothers Coen's amazing films, but hot off the heels of No Country For Old Men comes there newest comedic feat, Burn After Reading. This film looks to be very funny and have a great script that follows a disk containing the memoirs of a CIA agent ends up in the hands of two unscrupulous gym employees who attempt to sell it. Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Francis McDormand, Tilda Swinton, and John Malkovich make up a majority of the cast and look to provide some great hilarity along the way. The Coens can do comedy just as well as a thriller and Burn After Reading looks no different. Burn After Reading releases on September 12th in wide release.
