Unstoppable Nabs Pine & Scott

Actor Chris Pine has finally taken his follow up role to this year's scifi hit Star Trek. The actor will star opposite Denzel Washington in a Tony Scott directed film for Fox studios called "Unstoppable". Variety reports the action drama script was written by Mark Bomback (Live Free or Die Hard and Race to Witch Mountain) and is centered around "an experienced train engineer (Washington) about to be laid off as part of company cutbacks and the newbie conductor (Pine) hired to replace him. They find themselves in a race against time to stop an unmanned, half-mile-long freight train carrying enough combustible liquids and poisonous gas to wipe out a nearby city." The film is said to be loosely based on real events, but sounds more like a sequel to Speed that was shot down. Julie Yorn and Ian Bryce are set to produce with production to begin this August for a summer release in 2010.

Denzel Washington at the MTV Movie Awards was first to spill the scoop. He told MTV, "I’m going to shoot a movie in the fall called ‘Unstoppable’ — me and Tony Scott — and Chris Pine’s going to do it with us. I hope I’m not speaking out of line. I think they made a deal with him, and I’m supposed to meet him next week.” Denzel also said Star Trek was the one film he planned on seeing this summer. Really Denzel? The "one movie" you planned on seeing? Give me a fucking break.

This news most likely means that Tony Scott's next film won't be the reported Warriors remake and instead he will once again work with Denzel Washington. Chris Pine has been recently rumored for quite a few films including; "The Green Lantern", but it seems he has chosen "Unstoppable" over a potential franchise. I can't say this project is very intriguing and didn't Scott just finish working with a subway train on "The Taking of Pelham 123" why does he feel the need to quickly get back to locomotives? Well at the very least, The Warriors is safe for a bit longer.

What say you? Can you believe Pine passed up The Green Lantern for this? Strikeback...
