Universal has its newest film in the Mummy series releasing next month, and to continue it's promotion, they have released a new photo of The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. This new picture features Jet Li as the Mummy himself! The pic is pretty damn cool and the mummy has the same feel as the previous two films.
Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, the newest in the series has been taken over by Rob Cohen who has previously directed alot of crap including: Stealth, Skulls, Dragonheart, and Daylight. From the trailers and stills that have been released, Cohen looks to have nailed the same feel from the original series helmed by Stephen Sommers. I am not so sure if the movie will deliver like the originals, which I can watch nearly everytime their on, but I am none the less still excited.
The official synopsis for Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor - In the Far East, trouble-seeking father-and-son duo Rick and Alex O'Connell unearth the mummy of the first Emperor of Qin -- a shape-shifting entity who was cursed by a wizard centuries ago.
Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is directed by Rob Cohen, stars Brendan Fraser, Jet Li, Mario Bello, John Hannah, and Luke Ford, and is set to release August 1st!
In related news, Rob Cohen announced today that he was going to be producing a remake of Tri Star's Pictures, Monster Squad!
That's right, Monster Squad, the blatant rip of the Goonies that was made back in 1987. I remember going to see this movie in the theaters at the ripe age of 10 and loving every minute of it. At last year's Comic Con, I attended a screening of the original film with a full cast and crew Q&A after the film. It was a blast! I took my son, who was 10 at the time, and he loved it just as much as I did when I was a kid. "Wolfman's got nards!" Myself, I felt the original held up very nicely and still was enjoyable from beginning to end. Rob had produced the original Monster Squad and will give it a go again for a new generation. Cohen has also produced The Wiz, xXx: State of the Union, The Legend of Billie Jean, and The Running Man.(Take that, for what it is!)
