Cruise & Top Gun 2?

The Sun is reporting today that Tom Cruise has been approached to play Pete Mitchell or better known as, "Maverick" again in the sequel to the very popular 1986 movie. It will be over twenty years since Cruise played the hot-shot rookie pilot in 'Top Gun' and this time around will feature, "Maverick at the Top Gun school as an instructor — and this time it is he who has to deal with a cocky new female pilot.” Sounds lame to me and hopefully to Cruise as well. Cruise, however is needing a big time hit at the box office and he may feel the need to dive into his closet to re-hash some of his older roles. What's next, 'Risky Business 2', 'Rain Man 2', or worse yet 'The Outsiders 2'? (Paramount is quickly looking into re-hiring Kenny Loggins to score the sequel also, Ha!)

What are your thoughts on a Top Gun 2? Do we really need another one? Who should play the cocky female pilot? Might this be TomKat's first opportunity to share the screen?
