Hillcoat's 'County' Alive After All

At the start of this year news broke that John Hillcoat's next film was getting shut down do to financing. News that seriously gave me heart ache. Hillcoat is a fantastic director and it is a sad day when powerful and proven directors are not allowed to make the films they desire. I'd far more rather see a director pitch an idea they want, then have a studio just hire them for some random project. Now nearly a year later news has surfaced that Hillcoat's...

Super Sets Release Date

One film I walked away from San Diego Comic Con 2010 extremely excited to see is James Gunn's "Super" starring Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page, Kevin Bacon, Liv Tyler and Nathan Fillion. The film revolves around a married man whose wife leaves him for a drug dealer, which in turn forces him into becoming a crime fighter known as the Crimson Bolt. This last week news broke that Gunn's low budget indie film which was picked up by IFC will be hitting select...

Superhero News Round-Up

Over the last week or so a number of the major superhero franchises have made some moves, rumors and all around noise in Hollywood. There has been an official casting, a hiring, also intent to hire along with a few rumors on just who a certain "The Dark Knight Rises" star may be playing and what superhero is up next for the big screen. Take a look at the full breakdown below....

Trailer: Source Code

In 2009 I saw a small scifi movie called Moon brilliantly directed by a first time director Duncan Jones. After seeing his movie the director will have my attention with almost anything he does. Jones has an eye I immediately took to and instantly knew I'd want to see more from him. This brings us to "Source Code," which follows a soldier that is part of military experiment that can transport him into another man's identity for the last 8 minutes...

Trailer: Green Lantern

Warner Brothers is gearing up for their first major DC hero outside of Batman and Superman hitting the big screen next summer and last week our first full length trailer hit the net. Ryan Reynolds is Hal Jordan who will become the "Green Lantern" a superhero who protects the galaxy. I've been eagerly awaiting this film and its nice to finally have a trailer to gauge the movie by. Take a look for yourself below....

Trailer: Battle Los Angeles

"Battle: Los Angeles" looks to be a the next scifi movie trying to stake claim in becoming the next Independence Day. Now for me that isn't necessarily the best thing, but lots of people love that movie and always seem to be comparing to it anytime we have an alien invasion action releasing. This film was loosely promoted at Comic Con this past summer but I failed to see the panel. So this is new trailer was my first real glimpse. Check it out now...

Trailer: Cowboys & Aliens

Back at Comic Con this last Summer we saw about 5 minutes of footage from Jon Favreau's upcoming scifi adventure "Cowboys & Aliens" starring Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford. This week our first teaser released and while it features a bit from what we saw at SDCC it also shows a little bit more of the world we are in for come next summer. See for yourself after the jump....

Trailer: Red Riding Hood

One trailer that left me kinda with my mouth on the floor and not in a good way this week was, "Red Riding Hood" directed by Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke. This trailer released a few days ago and immediately on Twitter I started seeing reactions of it being a Twilight copycat. My initial reactions were to scoff and say people were just being cynical, but boy-o-boy has Hardwicke latched on to the style she presented in the first...

Trailer: Zookeeper

A film I fear not just my kids but a lot of children will be begging to see, "Zookeeper" starring Kevin James as a Dr. Doolittle-type zookeeper. This film looks to follow in the same zany shtick James is known for, look stupid, fall down, make some fat jokes and get some cheap laughs. This film looks all kinds of bad, but there's no doubt this movie will do huge numbers with the 12 year-old and under demographic. Take a look for yoursel...

Trailer: Cars 2

"Cars 2" a sequel to the 2006 Pixar cartoon about Lighting McQueen. Now I thought the first Cars was just ok. It's certainly not my favorite Pixar film, but its also not my least favorite either. Generally speaking Pixar is the pinnacle of American animation these days and anything they do warrants some interest but after watching this teaser for "Cars 2" I find myself desperately trying to hold on to any spec interest in this sequel. Take...

Poster: Tron Legacy

For awhile now it seems that their is a new "Tron Legacy" poster coming out every other week, but this latest trio of posters is too good for me not to draw a little more attention to Disney's marketing. Starting at the beginning of the week, Empire Online began a slow drip of 3 new posters that would make one Triptych banner. Not only is each piece of the triptych set outstanding together they make a elaborate display of the story and conflict...

Best 3D Glasses for Your Buck

Let's face it, 3D is here to stay. Whether it is in theaters, on television or playing video games everyone is scrambling to the latest gimmick. I say gimmick because we went through this before. 3-D has been around since the 50's the first being Bwana Devil. Most of you will remember the 70's and 80's push to 3D. Movies like Amityville 3-D, Jaws 3-D, Friday the 13th 3-D. Back then, the format was 80% awful and as a direct result never really caught...

New Beverly's 3rd Horrorthon

Regardless of what month it is I love watching horror movies. Horror is probably my favorite genre of film. I say probably because I hate choosing. I love all genres of film, but horror just seems to stick the most, so instead of choosing one specific genre over the rest why don't I say its one of my favorite genres. Anyways, this last weekend my favorite Los Angeles based revival theaters hosted their 3rd Annual All Night Horror Show. 7 movies...

A Letter to Lucasfilm

Earlier today I posted my thoughts on Lucasfilm re-releasing the Star Wars saga in stereoscopic 3D. The article was penned in anger out of the fact it felt like a jab in the stomach. I've loved Star Wars since seeing the movie as a kid. I was one of the franchises most loyal customers (well truthfully my parents were because they paid for everything) owning and desiring anything and everything I could get my hands on with the words "Star Wars"...

Trailer: True Grit
