Thoughts on Batman v Superman

For better or worse "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is out. People around the world have had a chance to see it and react to it. Critics have been very harsh on it while general audiences have given it more favorable scores. As you may have guessed reading this post I too felt like putting my opinion out into the fray. I don't write regularly like I did a few years back for many reasons, yet BvS has left me compelled to get my thoughts out on the film as well as the universe DC and Warner Brothers have built with two films now under the direction of Zack Snyder. Everything below includes massive spoilers, so if you haven't seen the film you may want to steer clear from this post. This is something to read and enjoy following your own viewing(s). This conversation will continue in my own draft but this is how I feel after having seen Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice three times.

Beetlejuice 2 is a Bad Idea

News has been circling since last September that Warner Brothers and Tim Burton had given screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith the okay to tinker around with some ideas for a potential "Bettlejuice" sequel. It now seems that Seth Grahame-Smith is moving forward with Burton's blessing because he's told Ryan Turek of Shock Till You Drop that he's met with Michael Keaton to talk how to approach a sequel to the beloved 80's film. While Keaton's name conjures up some good feelings about the original, a sequel is a bad idea.

Can Burton Be Original Again?

News recently broke that Tim Burton is in talks with Warner Brothers to direct a new live-action Pinocchio with Robert Downey Jr. possibly set to star. This feels like the umpteenth time the children's book has been adapted in some form, however the ever so popular trend these days is a new twist, and here we will see the story of Pinocchio told from Geppetto's perspective. Despite of my lack of enthusiasm for this "new" version of Pinocchio, the news reminded me how badly I long for another original Tim Burton story. It seems like it has been forever, has it?

Trailer & Poster: Yogi Bear

Was really hoping that yet another one of my childhood cartoons wasn't being raked across the coals, but after watching the first trailer for "Yogi Bear" it appears it is. Like Alvin and the Chipmunks or Garfield, "Yogi Bear" is the next cartoon being brought to life with both live-action and CGI. The movie stars Dan Aykroyd as Yogi Bear and Justin Timberlake as Boo Boo along with Anna Faris and Tom Cavanagh. The live-action hybrid is set to release this Christmas in 3D. See the disappointing trailer for yourself below...

Girls of Sucker Punch

Zack Snyder's latest "Sucker Punch" is still 8 months away from hitting theaters but that's not stopping Warner Brothers from putting the film on display this year at Comic Con in San Diego. Snyder knows from experience the best place to get the fans excited is Comic Con and this year he's got some women to show off in Hall H Saturday. This weekend in preperation for Comic Con the L.A. Times ran a brand new image of the girls in "Sucker Punch" and I've got here for you below...

New Breed of Mortal Kombat

Were you satisfied with the Mortal Kombat movies? Some were and some bitterly disappointed. I come down right about in the middle. The first 1995 film was okay. It's fun for what it is, but it wasn't gory or violent much like the video games are. Fast forward to now and we have a group of individuals who want to make a Hard R-rated Mortal Kombat movie for the masses. They want to make a bloody and gory Mortal Kombat so bad they've even gone ahead and filmed test footage to hype up the Warner Brothers brass into financing the project. Take a look at the test footage (which plays like a prologue) below along with a few more details on the new breed of "Mortal Kombat"

Earlier this year a powerful short titled The Gift made rounds through the net. The scifi short was directed by Carl Rinsch and promoted a new line of Philips televisions. Outside of the promotion, the short definitely got a few executives attention and as a result, Carl Rinsch is now in final talks to helm a remake of the 70's utopian scifi "Logan's Run" for Warner Brothers. Voltron & Robotech Updates

Two anime cartoons/toys I always had a mild interest in is Voltron and Robotech. I make no claim to be the connoisseur that some are, but I've always enjoyed the two series. This week news has broke on both properties. While neither bit of news is groundbreaking, it definitely illustrates some momentum on the particular projects. Read the full details after the jump...

Kevin Smith has longed to make a film he feels extremely confident about since his 1997 acclaimed film Chasing Amy. Knowing that Mr. Smith is an epic hockey fan, it is not a shock that the comedic director feels he has his best work in "Hit Somebody." With confidence on his side, Smith recently revealed on his Twitter feed that he has begun to shop the Hockey drama set back in the hay-day of the brutal sport. WB Debating 3D for 'Titans'

To 3D or not to 3D, that is the question for Warner Brothers and their upcoming action fantasy "Clash of the Titans." One of the biggest trends in Hollywood right now is 3D and after James Cameron's Avatar changed the game of potential, it is no surprise that WB are toying with the idea of a 3D conversion for 'Titans.' WB Creates DC Entertainment

With a great sigh of relief comes today's news. Let's be straight, Warner Brothers have done a piss poor job of the DC properties outside of Batman recently. Marvel Entertainment has shown them how to develop properties with solid talent and create viable hits even off properties that were not considered A-list i.e. Iron Man. Seeing their faults for what they are, Warner Brothers has taken action in creating DC Entertainment Inc. A move that intends to take full advantage of all the DC characters within the cannon. Read all the details below...
