WB Finalizing Logan's Run

Warner Brothers has been trying to get a remake of the 1970's scifi "Logan's Run" off the ground for the better part of the last decade. Today, news has surfaced reporting WB may have found the right combination to finally get this remake in front of cameras. Take a look at the full details after the break...

Warner Brothers are finalize a deal that would see Ryan Gosling starring and Nicolas Winding Refn directing. Gosling and Refn have just finished filming "Drive" together and reportedly Gosling is "eager" to work with Refn again. If finalized, Refn would direct off a script penned by Alex Garland.

For those of you who are not familiar with the 1976 original film here's a brief synopsis: In the 23rd century a utopian society is pushed to live life to the fullest pursuing all of their desires within their 30 year lifespan. The scifi which was adapted off of William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson novel of the same name follows Logan 5, a Sandman whose primary job is to track down runners that are trying to flee their fate at Carousel only to end up fleeing himself.

Ryan Gosling would potentially play the lead, Logan 5 if the deal is finalized. Gosling would be a perfect fit for the role. The original film broke some boundaries for its time, but now feels awfully dated. Some of the special effects are so silly, watching it now just becomes a giggle fest. As for Nicolas Winding Refn, this would be his first jump into the scifi genre. Refn has typically been an arthouse/independent director, but directing "Logan's Run" for WB could put his name into a different stratosphere. This film is considered to be a tentpole by WB, something that could easily become a franchise if the revenue is there.

Expect plenty more news to follow on "Logan's Run" as it develops.
