The Killer Remake Announced

Another classic foreign film is being remade. This time it is John Woo's 1989 seminal classic "The Killer." The original film is one of many movies I saw back in the early 90's that changed my appreciation of film. It is one of those films that you'd hope would not be remade, but alas here we are. Take a look below for the full rundown of the announcement made yesterday...

Essential Entertainment has teamed up with Lion Rock Productions to get an English language 3D remake made to Woo's classic "The Killer." The good news, John Woo will produce and serve and a buffer to ensure his vision is not sullied too much. Talented Korean actor Jung Woo-Sung (The Good, The Bad, The Weird) will star as the killer made so famous by Chow Yun-Fat.

From there the rest of the released news does nothing for me. Mainly because I have no real background on the hired talent. John H. Lee will direct and Josh Campbell will write. Lee has a number of films under his belt, five to be exact, but I've never seen any of them so I really can't comment one way or the other. John Woo does give some praise of Lee however saying the remake is, "in capable hands by the incredible visual style and tender emotion he brings to all his films." So at least Woo is excited about the idea. Hopefully this remake will capture the tone of the original and be able to please original fans as well as gain a whole new generation of fans. Granted that is some lofty goals for such a classic action film, but one can be hopeful.

Stay tuned for more on "The Killer" 3D remake is it becomes available.
