Summit Buys Frankenstein Prequel

I've always been a fan of Dr. Frankenstein. Especially the idea of what made him into who he is. What got him into medicine. What made him into the strange scientist we know in the classic Mary Shelley novel, etc. Well it seems I'm not the only one who might be interested because Summit Entertainment has just acquired the film rights to a prequel story of Dr. Victor Frankenstein. Take a look at the full details below...

An action adventure novel about the early life of Victor Frankenstein written by Kenneth Oppel titled, "This Dark Endeavor: The Apprenticeship of Victor Frankenstein" has yet to even release, but that hasn't stopped Summit from picking up the rights. The novel is set to be released this summer by Simon & Schuster yet no real word is out how quickly Summit will move to get the property in front of cameras and in theaters. We do know that Karen Rosenfelt who has produced the Twilight Saga for Summit will produce.

The novel is said to follow a young Victor Frankenstein and his attempt to save his twin brother Konrad. "Victor seeks out a mysterious old alchemist who sends Victor and his best friend Elizabeth on a dangerous quest to find three rare ingredients needed to create the Elixir of Life, a fabled serum that will give the drinker perpetual health. There are betrayals along the way and a love triangle between Victor, Elizabeth and Konrad." The tale is set to have plenty of references to Mary Shelley's original novel and furthermore is suppose to set up the original storyline as well.

I love this idea. Frankenstein the doctor as I previously said is totally intriguing to me. My only worry is Summit Entertainment. Will they try to make yet another Twilight-esque film? Summit has "Red Riding Hood" releasing this year which feels like a mock-up of Twilight, so what's stopping them from doing it again? Considering we have another love triangle in the synopsis for the novel, there's a chance. Here's to hoping we don't.

Stay tuned for more as it develops...
